The Lady Wildcats had a three game stretch in a two-day span while on the road. The first matchup was against nationally ranked Wallace-Hanceville, the second match was with Calhoun, followed by Lawson State to round of the road trip in Northern Alabama.
The road trip didn't start off so hot as the Lady Wildcats had an uphill battle to fight as they faced the first place team in the ACCC and NJCAA ranked Wallace-Hanceville. Hanceville won in three sets but they were fairly close, 20-25, 21-25 and 19-25. The front line size was key in Hanceville's victories.
Jalei Jomalon finished with another double-double with 33 helpers and 10 digs. Zoe Van Rijn also recorded a double-double with 10 kills (.421 K%) and 16 digs. Breunna Crawford was the only other player in double figures in kills with 10 (.450 K%). Tryneti Chatman came up with 16 digs as well.
It didn't take long for the Lady Wildcats to get back on track as they traveled to Huntsville, Alabama to take on Calhoun a few hours later. Bishop defeated Calhoun 3-0 with sets going 25-19, 25-22 and 25-20. Zoe Van Rijn was the only Wildcat with a double-double as she hammered in 10 kills (.333 K%) and 11 digs. Jalei Jomalon finished with 34 assists. This is Calhoun's first year back in the ACCC while it's only the Lady Wildcats second season of volleyball.
After splitting with Wallace-Hanceville and Calhoun on Sunday, the Lady Wildcats traveled to play Lawson State in Birmingham, Alabama the following afternoon. Lawson State would take the first set 25-21 before the light turned on for the Wildcats. Bishop would go on to win the next three sets 26-24, 25-18 and 25-12.
The Lady Wildcats had a better statistic match in this one as three players posted double figures in kills. Freshman Whitley Grant and Sophomore Ma'Kayla Jones led the way with 14 kills while Zoe Van Rijn added 10 herself. Grant was extremely efficient hitting at .545. Jalei Jomalon was key in the victory by setting up her teammates with 49 assists.
The Lady Wildcats return home in a matchup between Coastal Alabama-East on Wednesday, September 21st at 5:00 pm. Admission is free. Bishop State remains in the 3rd place spot in the ACCC standings.
