10-0 After Lopsided Win Over L.B. Wallace

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Bishop State Wildcats Men's Basketball team defeated L.B. Wallace 91-57 at the Fredricka G. Evans Cultural Centre. The Wildcats completed the season sweep over the Saints from Andalusia, Alabama.

Playing without leading scorer Kedar Bodie and 6'10" center Darrion Salery for the day, it didn't stop the dominance of the Wildcats who have a lot of depth. Kevin Kogbara got the start for Kedar Bodie and it was an adjustment on the defensive end in the first half. The Wildcats had no issues scoring the ball in the first half shooting 58.1% from the field and 60% from three. Defensively was the issue for the Wildcats who are the #1 team in NJCAA in several defensive categories. Although they only gave up 30 points at the half, it was more than they wanted to allow. It was a close game throughout the first half although the Wildcats never trailed. The wildcats went up 7, 15-8, on a tip in by Devin McCain, and it looked like the Wildcats would take off from there. After a turnover the, Nicholas Bennett of L.B. Wallace converted an and one and cut the lead to 4. Coach Trent Eager then made a mass substitution which helped pushed the lead to 9 behind Kaymen Brown's layup, then a jumper by Seth Grandberry, a layup by Kevin Kogbara and a dunk by Marvin McGhee IV. After the media timeout, the Saints cut the lead to six with a three from Jagger Young, but that was the closest the Saints would get in the first half as the Wildcats ended the half with a double digit lead after a made three by Marvin McGhee IV with less than 7 seconds remaining in the first half.

To begin the second half, the Saints came out hitting on all cylinders going on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 6. Michael Kinnard got to the free throw line for the Wildcats on a layup attempt on a dump off. He converted one free throw but was able to get his own rebound somehow which led to a made jump shot by Marvin McGhee IV pushing the lead to 9. That started a 19-0 run by the Wildcats over a 5-minute span before the Saints were able to score another basket. Just like every game this year outside of the Baton Rouge game, the Wildcats never looked back and every player had a chance to play.

All five starters scored double figures, led Marvin McGhee IV with 16 points and 8 rebounds, Joseph Frazier and Seth Grandberry both had 13 points, Kevin Kogbara had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Michael Kinnard finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Wildcats largest lead was 34 and they out rebounded the Saints 49-22.

The next game for the Wildcats is on the road Tuesday, December 11th at Pensacola State in a rematch in which the Wildcats won 66-48.
