Three Key Returners Look To Lead
As the cool autumn air settles in, there's an electrifying buzz on campus, and it can mean only one thing – a new college basketball season is upon us. Today marks the day of a new season for the Bishop State Men's Basketball Team. This year's roster is full of newcomers with only three returning players from last year's squad. Head Coach Trent Eager enters his third season as the men's basketball coach and has hopes that this will be his best season even with a young squad.
The three returning players from last year's team are Joseph Frazier, Darrion Salery and Michael Kinnard. Frazier was last year's third leading scorer averaging 12.9 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game. Frazier is known for his freakish athleticism and speed and will be looked upon to lead this young group. Salery is the tallest on the team at 6'10" and has grown two inches since his arrival to Bishop State. He averages 4.8 points and was the second leading rebounder at 5.4 rebounds per game. His production is expected to increase as he enters his third season of playing organized basketball. Michael Kinnard arrived to Bishop State midway through last season and played in 14 contest. Kinnard made an instant impact leading the team in rebounds averaging 6.3 per game while averaging 6.5 points. His versatility at 6'7" allows him to be a Swiss army knife for the Wildcats.
In addition to the three returnees, thirteen newcomers complete the roster with twelve of the thirteen being frosh. Two of the transfers are sophomore Kevin Kogbara and frosh Kedar Bodie. Kogbara is a transfer from Allan Hancock College in California where he was first team all-conference after averaging 8.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Bodie transferred in during the spring from South Georgia Tech but not play last season.
The rest of the roster is filled with true freshman right out of high school that are expected to make an immediate impact for the Wildcats. Dasean Sellers – 6'5" Guard | Wenonah HS (AL), Kaymen Brown - 6'3" Guard | Jonesboro HS (GA), Marvin McGhee IV – 6'6" Guard | Alexander HS (GA), Devin McCain – 5'10" Guard | McGill-Toolen Catholic (AL), Trey Delmore – 6'2" Guard | Shaun Dumas Academy (LA), Eugene Alvin 6'7" Guard/Forward | Gateway HS (FL), Jeremiah Edwards – 6'4" Guard | Dutchtown HS (GA), Bryson Colbert – 6'1" Guard | Hamilton Christian (LA), Seth Grandberry – 5'10" Guard | Lausanne Collegiate (TN), Taber Brown – 6'4" Guard | North Bay Haven (FL), Amauri Ousley – 6'9" Center | LeFlore HS (AL).
